RIDOH’s Recommended Testing Schedule
RIDOH recommends annual testing for coliform bacteria, nitrate/nitrite, color, chloride, sodium and turbidity; testing every three to five years for metals, corrosivity and hardness; and every five to ten years for VOCs and MTBE. Additional testing may be appropriate based on location, land use and prior results.
When to Test Sooner
Test after flooding or well damage, when water suddenly changes, when a new concern appears, or when a treatment system needs to be verified. Buying, selling or installing a new well can also trigger specific testing requirements.
